So, your loved one loves books and you are scrambling to find a good gift for the holidays without the risk of buying a book they've already read (because, let's be real - they've either already read it, or it's sitting on their shelf). Lucky for you, I've compiled a list of some of my favorite bookish gifts that are sure to excite.

GIFTS FOR THE BOOK DRAGON
First of all - what's a book dragon? If you're not super into the bookish world, you may not know, but a lot of us call those who tend to collect books of all sorts a book dragon. The name comes from a dragon's tendency to hoard riches and jewels - we just like books. So what, we may not read them all, but they're super pretty on our shelves, ok?
Book dragons don't neeeeed more books, I mean our shelves are full, but there's a sense of pride in having our own personal cozy library. So, what can you possibly get a book collector that they don't already have? Well, I speak from experience here, so read on for some ideas:

GIFTS FOR THE BOOKWORM
Okay, we've established what kinds of things to buy for the book dragon in your life, but what about the bookworm? Bookworms are readers who devour books so swiftly there is no possible way they could collect all of their reads. You will always find a bookworm with some reading material on their person and they probably always have a great reading suggestion. If this sounds like your loved one, keep reading below for some great gift ideas:

GIFTS FOR THE E-BOOK READER
Maybe the reader in your life is a steadfast Kindle, Kobo, Nook or iPad reader. Maybe they have multiple e-readers (one for each room and their bag, of course), or maybe they are always on the go and prefer the flexibility a digital book provides. Being an e-book reader means they probably don't have an extensive physical repertoire of books (maybe some shelf trophies, but they don't count okay?) and wouldn't benefit as much from things such as bookmarks or page holders. If this sounds like your reader, scroll on for some gift ideas:

BOOKS ARE LIFE
No matter the type of book lover your giftee is, there is surely something out there that they can get some use out of other than a book itself, however if you know that your loved one would still be happiest with a fresh set of pages to dive into, here is a list of some great resources for book buying:
Local Bookstores
First and foremost, your local bookstore should be your first stop to go book shopping. Supporting local is so important and you know that your purchase is supporting someone's passion. Local bookstores tend to stock some cute non-book items, too, so be sure to stop in and see what they have to offer! If you don't know what book to snag for your loved one, try asking the shop clerk for some recommendations based on their favorites, or grab a gift card if they offer one.
Shop Secondhand
Grabbing a book from a secondhand shop is another great and sustainable way to add a book or two to your giftee's collection, especially if they don't care a bunch about following the newest book trends. There are tons of book exchange or buy back stores to choose from as well, so you can always bring a few of your old reads in to lessen the cost of your book purchase.
This website is a wonderful resource for online shopping that still supports local bookshops. Every purchase made on this site benefits small and independently owned bookshops, and you can even choose which specific store you want your purchase to go toward. They have an extensive collection, even offering some games and puzzles, and they will ship right to your door. They also offer digital gift cards if you're not sure on which book to buy.
E-Reader Gift Card
If your reader prefers digital books, purchasing a gift card for them to buy more e-books is always a good option. Amazon gift cards work for purchasing Kindle books, and Barnes & Noble sells Nook gift cards. Pairing an e-book gift card with a cute new device case or stickers would be an adorable gift your loved one would surely get use out of.
HAPPY HOLIDAYS!
Whether your loved one receives a new book or a cute new bookmark, they are sure to be thankful for the thought you put into choosing a gift for them. An easy way to make a book lover feel seen and loved on the holidays is just to show interest in the hobby they love so dearly. Ask them what their current read is, or genuinely inquire about some of their favorite books. Sharing our love of reading is one of our favorite things to do, so don't underestimate the impact that a conversation with a fellow or aspiring bibliophile can have. Happy holidays, and thanks for reading! <3
